Are there no local Charlotte Mason communities near you? We know there is a need for all of us to have support and community, so for those who do not have a local community and may not be able to establish one in this season, we want to offer CM Soirée Online Societies as a way to fill some of that need. These Societies will be limited to 20 members in order to facilitate opportunities for candid discussions and open conversations. Members of these Societies will be able to join a private Facebook support group. There will also be monthly group Zoom meetings (60 minutes) which will be live meetings for the discussion of the month’s reading assignment. The first Zoom will be a Meet and Greet in December and then the first Reading Group Zoom will be in January.
The Online Societies welcome anyone who is committed to implementing Miss Mason’s methods in their home, who is seriously interested in learning more about her philosophy, and who is willing to joyfully make time for this community. Applications for membership will open on Friday, October 13, and the Application forms are located at the bottom of this page.
The Societies welcome people from all backgrounds and faiths. A Christian worldview is essential to understanding Mason’s work though, and that belief is reflected in the way these Reading Groups will be led. So anyone who is comfortable with this is welcome to join!
In order to remain a member of the Society, it is required that you attend 2 out of 3 months of Zoom meetings. If you are unable to fulfill this requirement, you will be removed from the Facebook group.
Membership fee is $15 and must be paid within 24 hours of submitting your application. This fee includes your study guide for the Society’s current Volume (Volume Four fee will be a bit higher).
You will also be able to purchase an optional Topical Guide for personal study if you are interested in doing that alongside the Volume group study.
The Lilac and Magnolia Societies will be reading Volume One, and the Orchid Society will be reading Volume Two. When a Society finishes one book, they will start on the next book together. We do hope to add several more Online Societies during the year to give more opportunities for parents to join a Reading Group.
CM Soirée Lilac Society
Volume One, Home Education
Zoom discussions will be the second Monday of each month at 7pm CST.
The Lilac Society is led by Jessica Feliciano. Jessica lives with her husband Hector and their five adopted children in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Before she became an adoptive parent, Jessica homeschooled her oldest son for seven years during which time she became acquainted with the idea of a Charlotte Mason education. However, it wasn’t until she and her husband made the decision to homeschool their five youngest that she resolved to look deeper into this philosophy of education. Over the past 12 months, she has discovered for herself just how beautiful a Charlotte Mason education can be and she is delighted to come alongside other mommas as they determine to dig into this method for themselves.
CM Soirée Magnolia Society
Volume One, Home Education
Zoom discussions will be the third Monday of each month at 8pm EST.
The Magnolia Society is led by Allison Durham. Allison lives with her husband Richard and their two sons in rural northeastern North Carolina. She “met” Charlotte Mason before she began homeschooling her oldest son 3 years ago, but has delighted in learning more about her and her philosophy of education in the last year. She is so excited to have other parents come alongside her to learn more through Charlotte’s volumes about how to apply this philosophy in their homes.
CM Soirée Orchid Society
Volume Two, Parents and Children
Zoom discussions will be the third Sunday of each month at 5pm PST.
The Orchid Society is led by Sherilyn Fossum. Sherilyn is mom to two delightful children and wife to a true man of God. She homeschooled their two children using a mix of textbooks and workbooks for six years before she realized that her children needed more than a head full of facts to become what God intended for them. That’s when she went on a prayerful search for a method that would meet her children where they are, for who they are, and challenge them to grow in Christ. Her search led her to Charlotte Mason. She love to read her writings and is eager to understand more about applying her principles and practices.
We will post updates here as new Online Societies are added and more space is made available for new members!
